Aaron,

I did enjoy the CD's, particularly the meatier parts about mergers/acquisition (esp. the idea of starting a company just to kind of "annoy" a larger company and forcing them to buy you for a big payoff), Pent's talk about his energy adventures, and Leininger's story. Dr. Leininger is the same guy who spent $2 million of his personal fortune targeting liberal Republican State Representative incumbents in the primaries in 2006- and bagged 2 out of 5, or 40%. Since incumbents get reelected 99+% of the time, I'd call that a win. My kind of guy!

Brian,

Two words that make a 200-year plan possible: compound interest; how much you save at the front end is more important than your income. The fly in that ointment is our fictitious monopoly money (which retains value based on artificial scarcity and preexisting debt obligations and contracts from the gold-backed period) will eventually prove too much temptation to our politicians to hyperinflate Weimar-style. The two ultimate stores of value- land (which is only as secure as the government granting title) and gold (as secure as your ability to hide and/or defend it) are actually not very good investments in the long term (they hold their value on average, but that's about it), as a buy-and-hold strategy. The trick will be keeping in liquid assets earning interest until it's absolutely necessary to transition, i.e. knowing when to convert over to hard assets. One warning will be when Congress considers banning ownership of them- like FDR did with gold confiscation in the 1930's.

What the dickens does a two-century plan even look like? I've got a plan to get to the end of next week, next month, and next year. I've got some ideas about where I'd like to be in 5, 10 and 20 years. But 200 years?!?! Good grief!

(Sotto voce) 'Think I'm a little outta my league with these guys....

Tom, I will say that Goeff Botkin, the 200 year plan guy impressed a few of our congregation very much, 4 of us went to that bootcamp. Glad you enjoyed them, VF has a lot of great stuff, if they have the bootcamp next year, I might take Cole with me.

Ken and I have a family plan. Our goal is to build a business that will be passed on to our children. We plan on having Kendall and Parker both working summers with Dad on the jobsite and also help with the business side of things. I think by working together on the family business, it will help them learn the value of money, hard work, and instill a sense of ownership that can only come from working for yourself. Our hope is that they will decide to build on our foundation and carry the business through the generations. I agree with you that making a video of our plan would not leave room for debate with future generations!

I have to say how proud I am of my husband! He fits your (and my) criteria for a family leader. He is smart -book and practical, a strong Christian, and extremely fair. He is setting the greatest example for our children! Parker will see what it means to be a strong man and Kendall will know that she wants to marry someone just like him. (Are you gagging yet?)
